FIFA has named the dates for two key women’s events for next year that were postponed last month because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica and Panama that should have taken place in August and September will now start on January 20, 2021, and the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India from February 17.

FIFA says both tournaments will retain their eligibility rules meaning players born on or after 1 January 2000 and on or before 31 December 2004 for the U-20 Women’s World Cup and players born on or after 1 January 2003 and on or before 31 December 2005 for the U-17 Women’s World Cup.

“Following a thorough assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent recommendations made by the FIFA-Confederations COVID-19 Working Group, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has taken the decision to confirm the proposed new tournament dates, subject to further monitoring,” FIFA said.
