Hot on the heels of Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu is the latest OFC Member Association to launch a national women’s league.
Six Vanuatu Football Association Member Associations will participate; Port Vila, Tafea, Shefa, Luganville, Sanma and Torba, with Penama and Malampa sitting this year’s edition out.
VFF President, Lambert Maltock expressed his excitement at the impending start to the tournament during the draw on the 15 January at VFF Haus.
The National Leagues (men’s and women’s) have been made possible by funding from FIFA Forward 2.0, a funding programme from the international governing body which enables football to grow globally.
The women’s competition will be held at the VFF Teouma Academy Field and kicks off on 23 January with the finals scheduled for 6 February at Korman Stadium.
While it is the second edition of the men’s competition, it’s the first time VFF has offered a women’s national league.
