The first-ever Tonga Futsal League has been building up since April and will culminate tonight with the final of the Women’s League between Fahefa Lo’ihele FC and Veitongo FC.

Veitongo made it through to the final after seeing off Navutoka Angels 3-1 in their semi-final, while Fahefa-Lo’ihele beat Havelu 7-2.

Tonga Football Association competition manager Penateti Feke said for the league’s first season, 14 teams registered to participate.

“The teams were divided into two pools and had one round robin before progressing to the knock-out stage,” Feke explained.

“The competition has been progressing every week in a competitive sense. Most of the teams have expressed their enjoyment at playing futsal, especially when it’s played indoors.

“I think the final will be a very good and exciting game between these two clubs.”

On Tuesday, the Third Place Play-off was held between Havelu and Navutoka Angels. The teams, which finished second and third respectively in Group B, were inseparable, with Havelu taking third place thanks to an 11-10 penalty shootout victory.

The final between Lo’ihele-Fahefa and Veitongo kicks off this evening at 19h20 at the ‘Atele Indoor Stadium.
